Clare householders are being urged to make a clean sweep of it in 2012 when it comes to their chimneys.
The county’s Fire Rescue Service was mobilised to 65 fires, during the Christmas period last year with 42 of the call outs related to chimney fires while fire-fighters also attended 7 house fires.
While the figures are significantly down on 2009, Senior Fire Officer Dennis O’ Connell said people need to have proper escape plan in place in the event of a serious blaze at their home
