Fisherman rescued after reservoir fall

 

A man’s being treated in hospital after falling into a reservoir in West Clare.

The angler got into difficult at the local authority site near Kilkee at around five yesterday evening and was pulled from the water by a near by fisherman.

The 54 year old, believed to be from Limerick was fishing for trout at the reservoir at Corbally when he lost his footing and fell into the water.

Another fisherman raised the alarm after realising the injured man was unable to make ashore and swam out and dragged him to the bank.

Members of Kilkee Marine Rescue Service rushed to the scene where they treated and stabilized the man until the emergency medical services arrived.- An ambulance from Kilrush and a rapid-response paramedic unit from Ennis were sent to the scene.

The Kilkee Unit of the Irish Coastguard was then called in to assist due to the fisherman’s condition and he was airlifted to Limerick Regional hospital for treatment.
