Gardaí are to carry out further investigations today following a suspected gas leak in West Clare.
Five women were hospitalised following the incident at a house in Kilkee yesterday evening.
The five aged from their mid 60’s to their early 80’s were socialising at a house on the Railway Road in the West Clare town when one of them complained of feeling unwell and went home.
However her husband, who became concerned about her when she arrived home – then went to the house and discovered the woman’s four friends in different states of consciousness.
He quickly raised the alarm reporting he could smell gas in the area.
Ambulances from Kilrush and Ennis, a rapid response advanced paramedic unit from Ennis and a local doctor attended the scene and treated the women at the scene before they were taken to hospital.
Fire Crews then cordoned off the area and located a tank at the rear of the premises believed to be the source of the suspected gas leak
Separate investigations into the incident will continue today.
