A former Fine Gael Mayor of Shannon has quit the party and is to run as an independent in next month's local elections.
Councillor Mike Fleming is understood to have made the decision in recent days.

He will be joined on the ticket in the Shannon Electoral Area by fellow Town Councillor Cathy McCafferty.
The former Sinn Féin representative, who left the party two years ago, is also running as an independent.
