Flight Diverts To Shannon With Ill Passenger

A transatlantic flight that diverted to Shannon Airport this morning with an ill passenger has continued its journey.
 
 
Virgin Atlantic flight VS-116 was travelling from Atlanta in the US to London Heathrow when it made the unscheduled landing.
 
The Airbus A340-600 jet was about an hour west of Ireland when the crew advised controllers that they wished to divert.
 
 
The flight touched down at 8.31am and taxied to the terminal where it was met by airport staff and HSE ambulance paramedics.
 
Once the passengers baggage was removed from the plane, in accordance with strict security procedures, the flight was able to continue to London at 9.49am.
 
In the meantime, the passenger was removed by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick for treatment
