Flood Alert Ahead Of Storm Ophelia

An Emergency co-ordination group will meet today to plan for Storm Ophelia.

The ex-hurricane is expected to weaken to a post tropical storm as it approaches Ireland tomorrow, but will still bring severe winds and stormy conditions.

A Status Red weather alert remains in place for Clare, and also Galway, Mayo, Cork and Kerry.

School bus services in the affected counties have been cancelled, although schools themselves will decide if they will open or close.

Today, officials from a number of government departments, emergency services and defence forces will discuss their plans for the event.

Sandbags have been distributed to some areas already, and Clare County Council has issued a storm warning, and are warning of a risk of coastal flooding.
