Flooding Response to be debated at special council session

Recent flooding problems in Clonlara, Sixmilebridge, Ennis, and Carron top the agenda at Clare County Council this month, so much so that a special meeting is to take place this afternoon.

Members have called for the meeting prior to their December sitting to discuss the response to the recent flooding crisis and ways to prevent a reoccurrence in future.

South East Clare Labour Councillor Paschal Fitzgerald says it’s a matter of urgent concern for the county, given that serious flooding could happen again.

Clare County council is also being urged to invite Senior ESB officials to address the local authority, regarding their strategies at Parteen Weir, following the major damage caused by the release of flood waters to homes in Clonlara, Shannon Banks and O’Briensbridge.

In Ennis, meanwhile the focus is still on those who have been unable to return to their homes following the floods.

Local Fine Gael Councillor Tony Mulqueen had to leave his family home off the Tulla Road three weeks ago and says a lot of flood victims are still having a tough time.
