Floodwaters being to recede but Clare public asked to stay vigilant

Clare County Council says floodwaters are beginning to recede in many parts of County Clare but that a flood risk remains, particularly in River Fergus catchment area.

There has been significant flooding of lands in East Clare and the upper River Fergus catchment area, which includes Kilnaboy, Corofin and Dysert. The Council is monitoring rising water levels and is mobilised to respond to flooding. The Corofin to Kilfenora Road is flooded at Leamaneh Castle, while access to Corofin from the Ennis direction is passable at present.

Water levels have risen significantly overnight in the Edenvale catchment which impacts on the St Flannan's College and Clare Road area of Ennis. Restricted traffic arrangements are in place and the situation is being monitored.

Flooding is slowly receding in many parts of West and North Clare but motorists are urged to exercise caution, particularly on less travelled routes. The N85 north of Inagh will remain closed until further notice. Traffic is being diverted via Inagh through Miltown Malbay and Ennistymon.  Elsewhere, the Ennis to Connolly road at Inch Bridge has been reopened to traffic – as have a number of other roads throughout the county.

The Emergency Helpline has been stood down but an out of hours emergency number (087-4169496) remains in place for members of the public who wish to report flooded roads, fallen trees or other relevant difficulties.
