Flow Of Water From Parteen Weir Increased To 470 Cubic Metres Per Second

The ESB is warning that the flow of water from Parteen Weir will increase by 30 cubic metres per second today.

Water flow is being increased to 470 cumecs in response to rising waters in Lough Derg as a result of heavy rainfall overnight.

Clare County council says it expects water levels on the Lower River Shannon at Springfield to increase this evening as a result, having droped by 200 millimetres yesterday.

Area staff, Clare County Fire & Rescue Service, The Defence Forces and Clare Civil Defence are continuing to provide support on the ground in Springfield, as well as assisting in the transportation of residents of approximately a dozen properties isolated by floodwaters.

The ESB has advised that levels in Lough Derg may reach 2009 levels in the coming days and, as a result, the release of water through Parteen Weir may yet increase up to 500 cubic metres per second.

Meanwhile, the Taoiseach will meet with members of all Government Deparments at Cabinet next week in the aftermath of storm Frank.

Enda Kenny has called for a co-ordinated response to the bad weather – he wants to know what's been done so far and what else we need to do to help flood victims.

There's a 24-hour rainfall warning in effect today for parts of Leinster and Munster.

Up to 35 millimeters of rain are expected to fall – turning heaviest on high ground.

Jim Casey from the Office of Public Works is warning that the River Shannon is continuing to rise.
