The Bishop Emeritus of Killaloe has described the late Cardinal Desmond Connell as a “broken man”.
Dr Connell passed away yesterday at the age of 90, following a long illness.
The Taoiseach has led tributes to him saying he had a long and distinguished academic career and while his time as Archbishop was controversial, he’s recognised for his desire for holiness, his gentleness and humility of character.

Bishop Willie Walsh served at the same time as Cardinal Desmond Connell and he says that by his retirement he had become deeply affected by the criticism over his handling of clerical sex abuse.
