A former Clare Senator, who witnessed violence in his own home in his youth, is welcoming a move to give victims of crime legal rights for the first time.
The Criminal Justice (Victims of Crime) Bill, which has now officially passed through all stages of the Oireachtas, will allow victims greater access to information about the legal process, and supports both during and after conviction.
Former Shannon Fine Gael Senator Tony Mulcahy has been outspoken about his own experiences of domestic abuse in the past, labelling his father a ‘thug and a bully’.
