The first Director General of Aer Rianta International has strongly rejected the Transport Minister’s assertion that a debt free independent Shannon Airport justifies the loss of ARI.
Aer Rianta International which was founded by the late Dr Brendan O’ Regan designs, manages and operates duty free and airport retail outlets across the globe.

Announcing the establishment of a new Shannon Airport Company, independent from the DAA and debt free, Minister Leo Varadker stated that ARI would remain within the authority and that it moved beyond Shannon many years ago.
However Liam Skelly, the first Director General of ARI and former Shannon Airport Director has rejected this out of hand
