Developers recently withdrew a previous application for a more extensive project after it had been the focus of intense opposition.

This fresh application, which was lodged with the local authority last evening, outlines revised plans for coastal erosion management works at and adjacent to Doughmore Beach and includes the provision of two new protection structures at the Carrowmore Dunes.

Sand is to be excavated and sheet piling backstops, complete with what's described as "armourstone protection", will be installed.  This will run for just over 600 metres at the southern end of the beach, and 250 metres at the Northern end.

The final structure will be screened from view, while the project contains other associated works and specifies that ongoing access to the beach will be facilitated during and after the construction works.

Trump Doonbeg recently withdrew an application for a 10 million euro rock armour sea bern, in light of strong opposition, and management have said that they hope this revised application will allow works to be carried out in a more timely fashion, and for the course at Doonbeg to be protected from coastal erosion.

A decision on this application is expected on February 24th.
