Fresh Calls From UHL For People To Follow Public Health Advice After Increase In COVID Presentations

The region’s main hospital says the combination of an increase in COVID-19 cases there and dealing with the HSE’s cyber attack is making managing its services extremely difficult.

There are fresh calls this lunchtime from University Hospital Limerick for patients to only present to its ED in an emergency and to consider all care options before doing so, with widespread cancellation’s across the group’s six facilities, including Ennis General Hospital.

14 COVID positive patients are now being treated at UHL – compared to 2 at the same time last week.

Clinical Director for Medicine at UHL, Dr Alexander Fraser, says while they aren’t anticipating a fourth wave, balancing isolating patients with the aftermath of the cyber attack is proving incredibly challenging.
