Gritting of the county roads is expected to be increased from today with the arrival of a shipment of more than 6 thousand tonnes of salt into the Port of Cork this morning.
A further five shipments of salt are due to arrive between now and January 6th, bringing a total of fifty-thousand tonnes of salt to replenish the country’ s dwindling stocks.
Spokesperson for the National Roads Authority and Ennis Native Sean O’Neill says it’ll help conditions on the roads for both general motorists and public transport services:
Gardaí across Clare say all of the main routes are passable across the county this morning but are warning of icy patches on many back and sides roads while the Cree to Kilmihil Road remains closed.
Several Secondary School bus services have been cancelled into Kilmihil, Kilrush and Ennistymon as have national school bus services to Drumdigus Cranny, Kildysart,Lissycasey,Inagh Kilfenora Moy and Burane .
Stand pipes for householders in Ennis Clarecastle and Quin have also been set up in several locations around Clare County Town again today after pipes froze on Tuesday night.
