Renewed investigations into the death of an Ennistymon woman on the Galway Clare border are continuing as her grieving family marks the fifth anniversary of her death today.
No one has ever been held responsible for the death of 23 year old Emer O’Loughlin who’s body was discovered in a burnt out caravan near Tubber on the 8th of April 2005.
Senior Gardai from the National Bureau of criminal investigations have carried out a cold case review of the inquiry into the death of Ennistymon native Emer O’Loughlin, working closely with Gardai in Gort who carried out the initial investigation.
It took some time to identify her remains following their discovery in a burnt-out caravan in the townland of Ballybornagh, between Tubber and Kinvara five years ago today.
An art student at the Galway Mayo Institute of Technology, Emer O’Loughlin had been living in Newline in the Ballybornagh area for a number of years –
Initially Gardai had appealed for information regarding a male suspect, but the man in question has never been found.
Gardai in Gort have confirmed to Clare FM, they’re still working with the Garda Cold Case unit who have carried out a route and branch review of the case, and further details of their progress are expected in the near future.
