Funding boost for Clare community groups

Over one hundred thousand euro is being made available to community groups, voluntary organisations, and festivals in the Ennis area.

The funds from Clare County Council’s Ennis Municipal District Committee will initially benefit 11 community groups in Ennis while 20,000 euro will be divided between local groups in the surrounding areas of Clarecastle, Kilmaley, Kilnamona, Barefield and Quin.

Out of the 104 thousand euro available to Ennis Councillors – 14 thousand goes to Ennis Tidy Towns, while the Trad and Street Festivals get 5,000 euro each

The Clare Roots Society receives 4,500 euro while there's funding to the tune of 2700 euro for the Ennis Brass Band and 15 hundred euro for the Ennis Gospel Choir. 

Funds also go to Ennis Fashion Week, Community Games,  Heating the Franciscan Friary and St. Columba’s Church, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, and Irish emmigrants through the London Irish Centre, Irish Community Care and St. Michael’s Irish Centre 

A further 20,700 euro is being set aside for major festivals and events throughout Ennis and the wider area during 2015 and local groups can apply for funding under a new 20,000 euro Community Grants Scheme by February 12th. 

Seperately, Milford Care Centre has announced details of its Compassionate Communities Project for 2015. 

A dozen projects across the Midwest are to receive grants under the scheme for a variety of schemes. 

These include a remberance garden in St John’s National School in Cratloe and refurbishment of the family room at University Hospital Limerick. 

The organisation has sought applications for funding for projects that can make a difference to how communities engage with issues around death, dying, loss and care.
