North Clare is set to receive a significant boost in tourism and construction jobs with news of a major upgrade of Doolin Pier.
Six million euro in government funding has been allocated to the project, with the grants from government to be split between this year and 2011.
The announcement follows a long wait for new pier facilities in Doolin to allow ease of access for private boat users and a number of ferry companies bringing tourists to the Aran Islands.
