The funeral takes place today of a young serving soldier, who lost his life in a tragic accident in Spain earlier this month.
24-year-old Gerard McMahon, from Ogonnelloe was a member of the 1st Infantry Battalion in the Dún Uí Mhaolíosa Barracks in Galway and was also part of the 63rd Infantry Group in Syria.
He’ll be laid to rest on Sunday following mass in St. Mary’s Church, Ballyloughnane, Ogonnelloe at 1 o’clock.

He’s survived by his parents Pat and Carmel, sister Bríd and family.
