Further Hazardous Conditions as temperatures plummet to minus 8.

The cold snap could be making a return to sub zero conditions tonight with roads expected to deteriorate once again.

Clare County Council is advising people to prepare for the worst over the coming days and say today (Thurs) may provide householders with time to replenish supplies before what looks set to be another weekend of freezing temperatures.

Road conditions have improved in most areas but The Corkscrew Hill area of Ballyvaughan remains closed today due to icy conditions, and the Ennistymon to Corofin Road is also closed.

Drivers are being warned about serious potholes due to the ongoing frost, particularly on the Inagh to Miltown Malbay and Ennis to Kilrush Roads. There are also reported snowfalls in the Kilmaley area.

Clare County Council’s gritting crews have managed to replenish salt supplies but Senior Roads Engineer, Tom Tiernan says they’ll need more to deal with worsening conditions from tonight.
