It’s claimed health services in Clare and across the Western Region are bearing the brunt of Ireland’s economic woe’s.
Cutbacks unveiled by the HSE yesterday include slashing 7000 temporary staff hours, the seasonal closure of hospital theatres. the curtailment of student nurses and a scaling back of overtime and travel allowances.

It hopes to trim 12 million euro off its deficit every month – until the end of the year – in order to break even.
But HSE management and medical consultants acknowledged yesterday that the drastic cost-savings would inevitably impact on patient care.
