As the Presidential campaign enters its final days, Seán Gallagher has a commanding lead according to the latest opinion poll.
According to the latest opinion poll in this morning’s Irish Times, the independent candidate has 40 percent support – that’s 15 points ahead of his nearest rival Michael D Higgins – who’s on 25 percent.
Martin McGuinness is in third place on 15 percent.
David Norris is on 8 percent, closely followed by Gay Mitchell on 6 percent while Mary Davis and Dana Rosemary Scallon are in joint last position on 3 per cent.

The polls will open today of voters living on the five islands off the coast of Donegal.
The country’s island population votes early to ensure sufficient lead-time, in case bad weather delays getting ballot boxes back to the mainland for the count.
Voters living on islands off the coast of Mayo will go to the polls tomorrow, while those living on islands off Galway will vote on Wednesday.
