Clare County Council has postponsed a decision to signal which independent candidate it will nominate in this year’s Presidential election
The local authority heard from the five declared hopefuls at a special meeting last evening – Mary Davis, Sean Gallagher, Pat Jones, Clareman Dermot Mulqueen and Senator David Norris need the backing of four local authorities or twnety Oireachtas members in order to be put on the ballot paper.
Councillors passed a motion which means they will indicate which potential candidate they will back – however, due to time constraints, that person was not chosen
Businessman Sean Gallagher is the most likely recipient of the nomination, with Councillors set to vote on his candidacy next Monday.
