Gardaí in Loughrea are appealing for the public to be on the lookout for a blue BMW that was involved in a fatal hit and run last night.
A cyclist, 66-year-old John Whyte from St. Lawrence's Fields in Loughrea, died after being struck by the car – which has a 01-G registration – on the Gort Road in the town.

A post mortem is to be carried out this afternoon.
The car drove off in the direction of Gort and Gardaí say it would have visible damage to the bonnet and front and a defective right rear light.
