Garda Commissioner May Be Forced To Answer Questions Publically

The Garda Commissioner may be forced to answer questions in public about the O’Higgins Commission – and the treatment of whistleblowers.

The Policing Authority plans to hold two public meetings with the Commissioner to discuss issues raised by the O’Higgins report.

It follows a four hour private meeting yesterday between Noirin O’Sullivan and the new independent Policing Authority.

The authority says it has ‘serious concern’ about systematic failures in the Gardai and their impact on victims,

They also said they were ‘dismayed’ that the issues raised by O’Higgins have not been dealt with – despite being highlighted by earlier tribunals and reports.
