A Garda investigation is underway following a serious assault in Ennis.
The incident happened around the market area of the town earlier today.
At around 6 o clock this evening, emergency services were called to the scene of a serious assault on a woman in her mid 20s, in the car park area of Ennis marketplace.
The woman was transferred by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick where her condition remains unknown.
A man in his mid-20s was arrested at the scene and is being detained at Ennis Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
The scene has been sealed off for a technical examination.
Gardaí are not believed to be looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.
