Thousands of people are expected to take to the roads this evening as the bank holiday exodus gets underway.
The August Bank Holiday is traditionally the busiest weekend of the year and Gardaí are reminding motorists that they'll be out in force checking for speeding, drink and drug driving and the use of mobile phones behind the wheel.

Meanwhile, from today cyclists caught committing one of 22 offences will be fined €40 as new penalties come into force.
Sergeant Darragh Molloy from the Clare Garda Traffic Corps says cyclists here have been responding well to advice ahead of the new fines.
