Ennistymon gardaí are investigating a fatal road crash near Miltown Malbay which claimed the life of a young man.
Three others were injured in the two car collision which happened on the Lahinch Road at Clonbony just a short distance from Spanish Point shortly after five o’clock yesterday evening.
Its understood the man in his early twenties had just accepted a lift from a friend minutes earlier and was travelling home from nearby Miltown Malbay when when the Honda Civic he was a passenger crashed head on with a Ford Focus which had two occupants.
The crash happened on a straight stretch of road just beyond the brow of a slight hill and gardaí are investigating the possibility that the Ford Focus had stopped or may have been turning.
The young victim was pronounced dead at the scene while the occupants of the other car had to be cut from the vehicle and along with the driver of the Honda Civic were taken to Ennis General Hospital but their injuries aren’t said to be life threatening.
The road was closed for a technical examination overnight but has now reopened to traffic .Investigating gardaí are appealing to other drivers who may have been in the area at the time to contact them in particular the driver of a jeep that passed the scene near the time of the accident.
