Gardaí appeal after violent West Clare robbery

Gardaí are investigating a violent robbery in Kilrush in which the victim had her hair partially set alight.

The incident happened as she walked through the Vandeleur Walled Gardens in the West Clare town shortly after 5.15 last Thursday evening.

She was approached by two youths – described as being in their mid teens – One held a knife against her face- demanding money – while the other partially burnt her hair in an effort to intimidate her.

The culprits then fled the scene with a small sum of money. The victim sustained minor injuries in the incident but was left deeply traumatised.

Both culprits are described as being between 15 and 17 years old.  They are around 5 foot 8 with dark hair and average build. 

One was wearing a dark hoodie with dark tracksuit legs, while the other was wearing a white hoodie with a dark patch and dark tracksuit.

The Mayor of Kilrush says he is shocked and appalled by the violent assault and hopes its an isolated incident.
