Gardai appeal for witnessess in Mc Carthy investigation

Gardai are continuing to appeal for information regarding the death of Ballyvaughan woman Deirdre McCarthy.

Post mortem results on the body of the 43 year old woman recovered at Fanore Strand on Thursday revealed she suffered a violent death and gardai believe her body entered the water at another location following her disappearance on Sunday night or early monday morning.

Gardai have assured Deirdre’s mother, four sisters and brother, as well as the wider North Clare community that every effort will be made to find out what happened to her.

But Garda Superintendent John Gilligan says they’ll need more help from people in the Ballyvaughan and Fanore areas to do this

Specifically – Gardai have appealed for anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity near Deirdre’s home on the Lisdoonvarna Road or in the Ballyvaughan area between the hours of 11.30pm on Sunday night and 7am on Monday morning to come forward.

Superintendent John Gilligan says any witnesses can be assured of strict confidence.
