An application by Chief Superintendent Tom Curley to extend the detention period of two suspects detained over the death of Robert Sheehan was lodged at a special sitting of Ennis District Court today.

The pair, both in their  20’s were arrested in Cork just hours after the 21 year old victim was shot in the car park of the Bunratty Castle Hotel where he had been attending the wedding of a family member.

They were initially  held at Mayfield and Gurranabraher Garda Stations but then transferred to Ennis and Shannon Stations.

Their period of detention  expired at 11 today and in order for gardaí  to be able to question  them further they had to apply to the courts for an extension

An application to hold them for a further 72 hours was granted by Judge Patrick Durkan this morning and both men can be held until Friday – which at that point they will either have to be released or charged.
