An elderly couple have been killed in a road crash on the Clare Galway Border.
Gort gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the incident on the N 67 between Ballyvaughan and Kinvara.
The victims, a man in his mid seventies and his female pillion passenger who was in her sixties, died after their motorcycle collided with a car at Roo Demesne- about 6 kilometres from Kinvara shortly before five yesterday evening.
The couple – believed to be French nationals holidaying here , were pronounced dead at the scene by a local doctor – while the occupants of the car – two adults and two children escaped without injury but were treated for shock.
Several units of the Gort Fire Brigade attended the scene and local gardaí aided by their colleagues in Ennistymon closed the road overnight for a forensic examination –
It has since reopened to traffic but Gort garda are appealing for witnesses to the crash to come forward.
