Parents are being urged to ensure their children can be visible to traffic as they take to the streets trick or treating for Halloween tonight.

Gardai are also warning motorists to expect the unexpected and to proceed with caution when out on the roads in the coming hours.

Winter time kicked in over the weekend and the shorter daylight hours coupled with poor weather conditions can lead to increased hazardous driving conditions.
