Gardaí in West Clare are investigating a violent attempted robbery at the home of an elderly man in Kilmihil.
At around 6:20 last night the man, who lives alone at Shyan West, answered the door to two men who were wearing balaclavas, and then assaulted him before tying him up.

However, a neighbour disturbed them during the incident and the pair fled empty handed, while the man is recovering but is said to be shaken.
Gardaí in Kilrush want anyone with information to contact them.
