Gardaí To Be Out In Force This Bank Holiday Weekend

Thousands of people are expected to hit the roads across Clare as the Bank Holiday exodus begins this afternoon.

It's a traditionally busy period with a number of events happening in the county from the Waterways Ireland Scarriff Harbour Festival, to Kildysart Show and Kilmihil's Festival of Fun.

Gardaí say they'll be out in force and are aiming for a safe couple of days on the roads – in a year when four have been killed in crashes in Clare.

Meanwhile, it's also set to be a busy weekend in the skies above County Clare, with Shannon Airport expecting 42,000 passengers to pass through its doors this Bank Holiday weekend.

The figure is 20% is higher than this time last year and is one of the highest of any weekend of the year there.
