Gardai say they will treat sensitively the case of a baby girl found dead at a Wicklow recycling plant yesterday.
They’re appealing for the mother to come forward, as they’re particularly concerned for her well-being.
A worker at the Greenstar waste plant discovered the remains of the newborn baby girl at around 11 o’clock yesterday morning while sorting recyclable waste.
The baby was full-term and had recently been born, as was not wearing any clothing.
Superintendent Pat Ward says there’s a chance she was stillborn.
Greenstar takes waste from all over the country, so gardai have issued a nationwide appeal.
It’s understood Gardai are approaching the matter as a personal tragedy rather than something more sinister.
