Gardai are appealing for information following yesterday fatal head on collision on the Ennis to Kilrush Road.
A 61 year old man from Limerick and a 40 year old man who lived in Tullycrine in Kilrush were killed in the two car collision at Bansha, six miles from Ennis.
The 61 year old’ wife and 4 year old grandson were seriously injured and are being treated at Regional Hospital in Dooradoyle.
It’s understood the Limerick family were returning from their holiday home in Doonbeg and the 40 year old was heading toward Kilrush when the crash happened at the brow of a hill.
A fleet of ambulances attended the scene along with fire-fighters who used specialist cutting equipment to free the victims from the wreckage.
An advanced paramedic, with advanced life support training was also present as were a paramedic and two nurses, who were travelling home after attending an inquest in Kilrush.
The emergency call came in shortly before four and Inspector John O Sullivan said the stretch of road was very busy at the time of the crash.
The cars involved were a silver Dublin registered Volvo with one occupant and a Silver Ford Mondeo carrying the Limerick family.
He’s appealing to any other drivers who were heading to Kilrush or Ennis at the time and noticed anything to contact them at Ennis Garda Station on 6848100 or the Gardai Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
Yesterday’s deaths bring to five the number of people killed on Clare’s roads since the start of the year.
