Proposals for a long awaited new secondary school in East Clare have been given the green light.
Saint Joseph’s in Tulla , which has 462 pupils, is one of three schools set to benefit under Department of Education’s Building Works Programme for 2011.
St Finnachta’s National School is also been given the green light for a major extension and refurbishment works while Ennis National School will now proceed to tender.

While Dick O Connell, Principal of Saint Finnachta’s who is welcoming the announcement for the Sixmilebridge school is very cautious about the project moving forward
And Principal of Ennis national School Ray McInerney says that once constructed, the new school there will be of great benefit to students there
The developments are all part of the Building Works Programme for 2011 and come after years of campaigning across the county.
