The government’s inter-agency emergency response group will meet today, to plan how to respond to serious damage in Clare and elsewhere following the recent stormy weather.
The emergency group, which includes government departments, local authorities and the HSE, is due to meet at lunchtime, to discuss what emergency funding is needed, but Ministers have already indicated that money will be made available to areas badly affected in Clare, and also in Cork, Galway and Kerry.
Clare County Council is expected to make an urgent application for funds to help repair damage to the seafront in Lahinch and Liscannor, as well as roads in Clahane, Doolin and Ballyvaughan and other areas like Kilbaha and Carrigaholt which have suffered flooding.
The Council has said it’s too early to speculate on how much is required, but surveying the damage in Lahinch, Clare Fianna Fail TD Timmy Dooley said the cost will exceed ten million euro.
Last night saw more coastal flooding during high tide, though conditions weren’t as bad as those of yesterday morning or of Friday. High tide is just after 9 o’clock this morning.
