Government may reverse disability cut

Less than 24 hours after Budget 2012 was delivered, the government may now do a u-turn on one of the cuts announced.

There have been strong signals the coalition will backtrack on proposals to cut disability allowance for young people after serious concern was expressed by Fine Gael and Labour Back benchers last

The rebel TD Patrick Nulty who voted against the budget last night – over cuts to the disability allowance is now set to be expelled from the parliamentary party.

Finance Minister Michael Noonan said he was disappointed to lose Patrick Nulty,  but that it was a matter for the Labour party, while Deputy Nulty says he won’t be resigning his seat.
