Government Minister Says ‘Too Soon’ For Long Term Shannon Support

A government minister says it’s too soon to put longer term financial supports in place for Shannon Airport.

The county’s airport has seen a number of short term funding injections since traffic was virtually halted by the COVID-19 pandemic, including €8.4 million being set aside for operational and capital costs earlier this week.

However, the Shannon Group continues to lose around €1.3 million weekly – with several Clare Oireachtas members indicating they believe further supports will be needed down the line.

Minister of State for International Transport, Hildegarde Naughton, says the government intends to take the right measures at the right time for Shannon.
