Calls are being made for government policies to encourage small businesses in rural Ireland, due to a worrying number of vacant houses here.
A new study by Clare County Council, based on 2011 Census figures, shows that on the night of the national survey over 70 per cent of homes Liscannor, Kilkee and Lahinch were vacant.

Vacancy rates were at least 50 per cent in Mountshannon, Bunratty and Ballyvaughan while the overall rate for Clare of 21 per cent is the second highest in Munster.
