Govt Insists HSE Remains Committed To CAMS In MidWest

The Government insists that the HSE remains committed to providing mental health service inpatient beds for minors in the MidWest, despite a wait of nearly ten years.

In 2006, an expert group on mental health recommended that urgent attention be given to the completion of four 20-bed units nationwide, including at University Hosptial Limerick.

But since then, the unit has not materialised and concerns have been raised over the issue, and the the unsuitability of minors sharing inpatient psychiatric care facilities with adults.

But speaking in the Dáil, Junior Health Minister Aodhán Ó Riordán said resources are in place.
