Graphic photographs depicting the negative health effects of smoking will be carried on packets of cigarettes produced for the Irish market from today.
The coloured images chosen include a child on a respirator, a heart attack victim and a diseased mouth and lung.

The warnings follow other legislative measures to tackle smoking in recent years, including the ban on the display and advertising of tobacco products in shops.
Health Minister James Reilly said he hopes the pictures will shock smokers into quitting and prevent young people from taking up the habit.
He says he also examining other measures to help smokers kick the habit.
