Clare Fianna Fail TD Timmy Dooley is coming under fire over approaches made to Gay Byrne about running as a possible candidate for the Aras.
Deputy Dooley who is part of the six member committee set up to consider Fianna Faíl’s option regarding the presidency made contact with the broadcaster’s daughter Crona in Killaloe about the possibilty of the 77 year old entering the race.

Party leader Michéal Martin also phoned the broadcaster to tell him that Fianna Fail Oireachtas members could facilitate his nomination as an independent candidate.
However West Clare Fianna Fail Councillor Bill Chambers believes the party should be seeking an internal candidate
