Growing opposition to Mountshannon Sea Plane plans

Opposition to plans for a Sea Plane commuter service in Mountshannon is growing with a new committee planning to protest against the development.

Harbour Air Ireland, which is made up of a number of Clare businessmen, is seeking planning permission for a landing and mooring area to transport tourists and commuters via seaplane, in a bid to improve connectivity, create jobs and boost tourism.

But members of the local angling, sailing and gun clubs have now come together to oppose the plans and say they’ll protest at test landings for the new service.

Secretary of the Mountshannon Angling Club, Aidan Hickey says they fear the planes could introduce invasive species to Lough Derg, and have major concerns about the size of the seaplanes involved
