HAM Radio Gathering At Loop Head

One of Clare's most iconic tourist sites is to be used as a base to contact the world this weekend.

The Limerick Radio Club, which features members from Clare, Kerry, Limerick and Tipperary, will broadcast non-stop for 48 hours from Loop Head Lighthouse as part of the 17th International Lighthouse & Lightship Weekend.

As part of last year's event, the group used HAM radios to communicate with people as far away as Brazil, Australia, Tonga, French Guiana, Asiatic Russia, Ecuador, The Azores and The US Virgin Islands.

Loop Head Lighthouse is now open for it's fourth summer as a tourist destination, and more than 8,000 people visited there in May, June and July.
