Hardy Souls Prepare For Christmas Swims

Dozens of Clare people are preparing to take the plunge  all the aid of very worthy causes.

 
Several Christmas Day Charity Swims are taking place around the county tomorrow including in Lahinch at 12.15, The White Strand -Miltown Malbay at 1, while swimmers in Kildysart will be first off the mark at Gortglass Lake at Midday.
 
Other charity events over the Festive Season include The New Quay 10th annual New Years Day 10k walk in aid of Irish Cancer Society as well as a Turkey Run in Kilbeaconty.
 
Among the groups set to benefit from the fundraising include Saint Vincent De Paul, and the West Clare Mini Marathon Fund.
 
Proceeds from The Lahinch Christmas Day Swim, which is supported by Clare FM, will go to cancer-support group Slainte an Chláir.
 
Meanwhile, as numerous fundrasing charity swims take place over Christmas, the public are urged to stay safe.
 
Irish Water Safety is advising participants to be cautious given the considerable drop in temperatures and is urging spectators to be appropriately dressed and wearing non slip footwear given the hazards at some water locations.
