All twelve European seats here have now been filled.

The count lasted over two days coming to an end before 4 o clock this morning with all three candidates elected following count six.

The result coincided with the tallies and Independent Marion Harkin was re-elected in her victory speech she thanked those who helped her with her campaign over the past weeks.

Pat the Cope Gallagher took the second seat and reminded the crowd that this would not be his first time to serve as an MEP.

His election to Europe means that his Dáil seat is up for grabs and there will be a bi-election.

Jim Higgins was re-elected taking the third seat, he paid tribute to the returning officer questioned whether the recheck demanded by Declan Ganley had been necessary

Earlier Mr Ganley conceded defeat saying he would be bowing out of politics and would not be fronting the No to Lisbon campaign this time around.
