Harty Backs Scheme To Bring GPs To Rural Ireland

New plans aimed at encouraging GPs to move to rural areas have been welcomed by Clare's Independent TD.

Health Minister Simon Harris has signalled that a new scheme, which would see GP's being offered state paid salaried posts as an incentive to move to areas of decline, could be introduced as early as next year.

The proposal is due form part of negiotiations on new GP contracts, when talks begin in November.

Kilmihil GP and Independent TD, Dr Michael Harty, who largely based his election campaign on extra supports for GPs, says it's a positive move.
